Push Rod: Service and Repair
1.
Remove valve covers.
2.
Loosen adjusting screw locknuts, then loosen the adjusting screws until they stop.

Remove bolts from the rocker pedestals, then remove pedestals and rocker lever assemblies, Fig. 34.
4.
Remove pushrods, place pushrods and rocker assemblies in order so they may be installed in their original positions.
5.
Disassemble rocker arm assembly as follows:
a.
Remove retaining rings and thrust washers.
b.
Remove rocker arm from shaft. Do not disassemble rocker arm shaft and pedestal. Pedestal and shaft must be replaced as an assembly.
c.
Remove locknut and adjusting screw.
6.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a.
Inspect rocker for excessive wear in the bore (Maximum diameter; .75 inch) and contact surface for the valve stem. Measure rocker shaft
diameter. Minimum diameter is .746 inch.

b.
Lubricate rocker shaft with engine oil. Be sure to assemble intake and exhaust rocker levers in the correct location, Fig. 35.
c.
Inspect pushrod ball and socket for signs of scoring or cracks. Also check pushrods for straightness and roundness.
