Oil Pan: Service and Repair
1982---83 EAGLE
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain engine oil.
3. Lock steering wheel and remove air cleaner.
4. Support engine using a suitable holding fixture.
5. Raise vehicle and support on side sills.
6. Mark for assembly reference and disconnect front driveshaft.
7. Remove engine cushion bolts.
8. Remove bolts from sill-to-crossmember and position bar aside.
9. Loosen pitman arm at gear, then loosen idler arm at steering linkage.
10. Remove bolt from steering damper at crossmember.
11. Loosen sway bar bolts and lower sway bar bolts and lower sway bar.
12. Disconnect half shafts from axle. Compress half shafts in toward wheels, secure in compressed position with wire attached to frame sills.
13. Remove bolts from right bracket at axle tube bolt bars, then remove bolts from left upper axle bracket at upper end, and bolts from pinion end
bracket at pinion.
14. Remove vent hose and remove axle assembly.
15. Support crossmembers with jack and remove crossmember nuts and bolts, then lower crossmember assembly for clearance.
16. Remove starter motor, then the torque converter housing access cover.
17. Remove oil pan screws and remove oil pan.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
