Brake Caliper: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect and cap brake line from caliper.
3. Remove caliper as described under "Brake Pads, Replace."

DISASSEMBLY

1. Position a suitable block of wood between caliper and caliper piston. Keep fingers away from piston.
2. Using low pressure compressed air, extract piston from caliper piston bore.
3. Using a suitable tool, remove piston to caliper seal.

ASSEMBLY

1. Install a new seal into caliper. Coat seal using clean brake fluid.
2. Install piston and dust cover onto caliper. Do not damage seal.
3. Check condition of anti-rattle spring. Replace spring if necessary.

INSTALLATION

Reverse caliper removal procedure to install brake caliper. Bleed brake system.
