Oil Pan: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Raise and support vehicle.

3.

Remove underbody splash shield.

4.

Drain oil from engine.

5.

Remove engine mount cushion attaching nuts.

6.

Install oil drain plug and lower vehicle.

7.

Raise hood and place engine support tool MS 1900 or equivalent, onto inner fender panel flanges.

8.

Attach a suitable chain to engine lifting eyes and onto tool support screw.

9.

Tighten support screw until there is enough clearance to remove oil pan assembly.

10.

Using a suitable tool, remove oil pan attaching bolts, then the oil pan.

11.

Clean pan and engine block gasket surface.

12.

Reverse procedure to install. Note the following:

a. Do not apply any type of sealant compound to the new gasket, oil pan or engine block. The new oil pan gasket must be installed dry.

b. Three different length oil pan attaching bolts (A, B, C) are used.
c. Install attaching bolts in proper location as shown.
d. First install all oil pan attaching bolts (in proper location) finger tight.
e. Tighten the bolts attaching oil pan to the clutch/converter housing first.
f.

Tighten the remaining attaching bolts.

g. Torque all bolts using tool Mot. 1063 and a suitable torque wrench to 88 inch lbs.
