EGR Control Valve: Description and Operation
The vacuum source for both the EGR valve and the vapor control canister is controlled by this one valve. The valve receives voltage from the fuel
pump relay and is energized when provided a ground path by the ECU. When energized, the valve restricts vacuum to both the EGR valve and vapor
canister. With vacuum restricted, the EGR valve remains closed and purging of the canister is not permitted. During certain operating conditions, the
ECU breaks the path to ground, de-energizing the solenoid. When this occurs, both the EGR valve and vapor canister receive manifold vacuum, enabling
both EGR operation and canister purging to occur.
The solenoid valve is located in the ECU housing on the left inner fender.
