MEDALLION ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) UPDATE
The purpose of this communication is to inform all dealers of the progress of the Medallion ECU retrofit program and to advise them of their
responsibilities in making it a success.

All automatic transmission equipped Medallions ordered by dealers on or after July 27, 1987 have been equipped with the latest generation ECU. This
can be confirmed by the presence of a daub of paint (A) on the visible end of the clamshell that houses the ECU, as seen in Figure 1 and/or by the
presence of the homolagation number HOM 7700 742 979 (B) on the ECU below the part number as seen in the exploded section of Figure 2.

Effective with the receipt of this communication, dealership service personnel must adhere to the following procedures:
NEW PARTS
Any unused (never installed on a vehicle) ECU's P/N 7700 736 396 in Parts Department stock must be returned to the PDC for credit. Do not mark the
ECU cover in any way.
