SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some 1988 Eagle Premiers may have front wheel covers or styled wheel center caps that, under certain extreme braking conditions, become distorted
and fall off as they lose their retention capabilities.
DIAGNOSIS
This condition may be caused by the front brake rotor splash shields restricting air circulation to the front wheel area. When replacing wheel covers or
center caps, both front brake rotor splash shields should be removed to improve air circulation to the wheel area. The splash shields are no longer
installed in production and are not available as a service part. Removal of the splash shields will not adversely affect the brake rotor or brake operation.
Use the following repair procedure when missing or distorted wheel covers or center caps are replaced, and poor air circulation is suspected.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
The following repair procedure outlines the removal of the front brake rotor splash shields.
NOTE:
ALWAYS REMOVE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE SPLASH SHIELDS.
1.
Remove the following components as outlined in Section K of M.R. 287.
