Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Testing and Inspection
1. Unplug the idle speed control motor electrical connector. Modify the electrical connector of ISC motor exerciser tool 7008 as follows so that
it will connect to the ISC motor. Use a hobby knife to cut a groove in terminal (A) that is the same size and shape as the grooves in
terminals (D) and (B).
2. Connect the idle speed control motor tester 7088 connector to ISC motor.
3. Connect 7088 tester to battery. Red clip to positive, black to negative.
4. Start engine.
5. Place testers' switch in "RETRACT" position. Observe ISC motor actuator and engine idle speed. The actuator should retract and engine idle
speed should decrease.
a. If the ISC motor actuator retracts and engine idle speed decreases, proceed to step (6).
b. If the ISC motor actuator does not retract, it is defective and should be replaced.
6. Place testers' switch in the "EXTEND" position. Observe ISC motor actuator and engine idle speed. The actuator should extend and engine idle
speed should increase.
a. If the ISC motor actuator extends and the engine idle speed increases, the ISC motor is OK. Test the vehicle with the DRB-II service
diagnostic tester.
b. If the ISC motor actuator does not extend, it is defective and should be replaced.
