Measure the thickness of the flattened solder with a micrometer as shown in Figure 4.
Determine the thickness of the spacers needed by using the following formula and then position the spacers in the housing.
The thickness of the spacer at the differential section = the thickness of the solder (at the differential section) + gasket thickness 0.38 mm
(.015 in.) - end play at differential section thickness.
The thickness of the spacer at the transfer shaft section = the thickness of the solder (at transfer shaft section) + gasket thickness 0.38 mm
(.015 in.) - preload at transfer shaft section.
Standard Values:
Transfer shaft preload 0.10 - 0.15 mm (.0040 - .006 in.)
Differential end play 0 - 0.15 mm (0 - .006 in.)

After cleaning the gasket mounting service, apply petroleum jelly on the gasket surface of the transmission case and position the rubber coated
steel gasket.
7.
Install the converter housing and tighten the retaining bolts to 9-23 N-m (14-16 ft.lbs.) torque.
