Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation
1. Raise and support front of vehicle.
2. Remove return hose from reservoir and allow fluid to drain into suitable container.
3. Remove steering shaft to gear box pinion coupling bolt.
4. Remove tie rod ends from steering knuckles using steering linkage puller tool No. MB991113 or equivalent.
5. Remove pressure and return lines from steering gear box.
6. Remove clamp from lower steering column dust cover.
7. Remove steering gear bracket bolts, then the brackets.
8. Remove mounting rubber, then the gear box assembly.
9. Reverse procedure to install. When installing mounting rubber, apply adhesive to joints to prevent opening.
