Differential Carrier: Service and Repair
Differential Carrier Replacement

1. Remove driveshafts, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints/Service and Repair.
2. Position a suitable jack under rear axle assembly, then drain differential gear oil.
3. Scribe mating marks on differential companion flange, propeller shaft flange and flange yoke for assembly reference.
4. Remove differential to propeller shaft connection, and support propeller shaft with wire.
5. Remove companion flange using a slide hammer and adapter tool Nos. MB990211 and MB991354 or equivalents.
6. Remove differential carrier rear mounting bolt.
7. Remove differential carrier front mounting bolt and nut.
8. Remove differential carrier.
9. Remove differential carrier front support bracket.
10. Reverse procedure to install, ensuring not to swap RH and LH companion flanges.
