Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve: Testing and Inspection

PCV VALVE TEST

With the engine stopped.
1. Disconnect the ventilation hose from the positive crankcase ventilation valve.
2. Remove the PCV Valve from the rocker cover and reconnect it to the ventilation hose.
3. Start the engine and let it idle.

Crankcase Ventilation System Test

4. Place a finger at the end of the PCV Valve to check for manifold vacuum.

At this time, the plunger inside the PCV Valve should move back and forth.

5. If vacuum is not felt, clean the PCV Valve and the hose in cleaning solvent or replace.

PCV Valve Testing

PCV VALVE INSPECTION 

1. Remove the Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve.
2. Insert a thin probe into the valve from the threaded side.
3. Check that the plunger inside the PCV valve moves when pushed on.
4. If the plunger does not move, the valve is clogged and should be replaced.
