Intake Air Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation
Intake Air Temperature Sensor
PURPOSE
The Engine Control Module (ECM) modifies fuel injection duration according to the intake air temperature signal.
OPERATION

The ECM supplies a 5 Volt reference and a ground to the sensor.

The Intake Air Temperature Sensor is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor--the resistance of the sensor increases as temperature
decreases.

As the resistance of the sensor changes the voltage across the sensor varies. This voltage is read as air temperature by the ECM.
