Idle Speed: Adjustments
Base Idle Speed Adjustment
NOTES:

Base idle speed has been set by the manufacturer so there should be no need for readjustment.

If idle speed is excessive or has dropped due to load of the air conditioning etc. adjust as follows.

Prior to attempting to adjust idle speed confirm that the spark plugs, fuel injectors, idle air control motor the compression pressure etc. are all
normal.
1. The vehicle should be prepared as follows before the inspection and adjustment.

Engine coolant temperature 80-95°C (176-203°F).

Lights. cooling fan and accessories: OFF

Transaxle: neutral (P range for A/T)
2. Connect the scan tool to the data link connector (white).
NOTE: When the scan tool is connected the diagnostic test mode control terminal should be grounded.

3. If the scan tool is not used follow the steps below.
a. Insert the paper clip in the connector (blue color) of the 1 pin as shown in the illustration at left.
CAUTION: Insert the paper clip as in the illustration at left along the terminal from the opposite side of the locking pawl on the female
connector.

b. Connect a primary-voltage-detection type of tachometer to the paper clip.
