Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair
STEERING KNUCKLE REPLACE
1. With vehicle on ground, remove cotter pin and loosen hub to driveshaft retaining nut.
2. Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly and hub nut with washer.
3. On models with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), remove front wheel speed sensor.
4. On all models, remove front brake caliper and disc from hub; then, using suitable puller, disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle. It is not
necessary to disconnect caliper hydraulic line; support caliper from frame to avoid damage.
5. Using axle shaft puller tool No. MB990241 and holding tool No. MB990767, or equivalents, detach driveshaft from hub.
6. Disconnect steering knuckle from strut, then remove knuckle and hub as an assembly.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Install wheel speed sensor as described in Anti-Lock Brakes section.
