Wheel Bearing: Adjustments
WHEEL BEARING ADJUSTMENT
1. Raise and support rear of vehicle and remove wheel.
2. Ensure parking brake is fully released.
3. Check wheel bearing endplay with suitable dial indicator. Maximum allowable endplay should not exceed 0.002 inch.
4. Check hub and drum starting torque by rotating hub with suitable spring scale. Maximum allowable starting torque should not exceed 4 lbs.
5. If endplay or starting torque exceed limits, loosen bearing retaining nut, then retighten nut to specifications.
6. If endplay or starting torque are still not within limits, replace wheel bearings as needed.
