Air/Fuel Mixture: Adjustments
With California Emissions
1. Before inspection, set vehicle in the following conditions:

Engine coolant temperature 80 - 95° C (176 - 203° F)
^
Lights, cooling fan and all accessories: OFF
^
Transaxle: Neutral (P range on vehicles with A/T)
2. Check that the basic ignition timing is within the standard value:
Standard Value: 5° ± 3°.
3. After turning the ignition switch to OFF, set up the tachometer or connect the scan tool to the data link connector.
4. Start the engine and run it at 2,500 RPM for 2 minutes.
5. Set up the CO/HC tester.
6. Check the CO & HC concentrations at idle.
CO concentration: 0.5% or less
HC concentration: 100 PPM or less.
7. If the idle speed is outside the standards value, check the following items:

Diagnostic output
^
Closed-loop control (Based on the output signal of the oxygen sensor)
^
Fuel pressure
^
Injectors
^
Ignition coil, spark plug cable, spark plugs
^
Leak in the EGR system or EGR valve
^
Evaporative emission control system
^
Compression pressure
NOTE: Replace the catalytic converter if all of the above items are found to be within normal ranges.
