Fuel Injector: Testing and Inspection

CHECKING INJECTOR OPERATING SOUND

Listening For Injector Operational Sound

1.

Using a stethoscope, check the operating sound of the injectors ("chi-chi-chi-") during idle or while cranking.

2.

Increase the engine rpm, the frequency of the injectors should also increase.
NOTE:  If the injector you are checking is not operating, you should still be able to hear the operating sound of the other injectors.

3.

To verify voltage is reaching the fuel injector.
Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connector.

4.

Connect a NOID tester to the electrical connector for the injector.

5.

While the engine is being cranked, verify that the NOID tester light flickers.

CHECKING INJECTOR RESISTANCE

Checking Injector Resistance

1.

Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connector.

2.

Measure the resistance between the injector terminals.
Refer to SPECIFICATIONS/ELECTRICAL.

NOTE:  If the injectors test results are not within specifications or if the results deviate from above, replace the fuel injector.
