Fuel Pressure Control Valve: Description and Operation

Fuel Pressure Control Solenoid Valve Location

The Fuel Pressure Control Solenoid Valve is a computer controlled, solenoid operated, vacuum shut-off valve located on the firewall.  Under normal
operating conditions manifold vacuum is applied to the fuel pressure regulator, this allows the regulator to control fuel pressure in relationship to
manifold pressure (to ensure precise fuel metering).  When the engine is started with a high coolant temperature or at high intake air temperatures, the
ECU grounds power thru the fuel pressure control solenoid to power the valve.  This opens the valve and applies atmospheric pressure to the fuel
pressure regulator.  The result is that the regulator increases fuel pressure.  This helps prevent fuel vaporization in the fuel line thus maintaining idle
stability in hot start conditions.
