Wheel Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Raise and support vehicle, then release parking brake.
2.
Disconnect Electronic Control Unit (ECU) electrical connector, then measure wheel speed sensor output voltage at vehicle side harness connector.
3.
Put shift lever in 1st position on models with manual transmission or L position on models with automatic transmission and proceed as follows:
a. Rotate wheels and observe wave shape for each wheel.
b. If output voltage is to low or there is no voltage output, check each wheel speed sensor. On FWD vehicles, check sensor gap.
c. If there is variation in wave shape, check axle hub.
d. If there is noise in wave shape or distortion, check for a broken or disconnected speed sensor wire, faulty wheel speed sensor, or missing teeth.
