1. To inspect bearing endplay, proceed as follows:
a. Place hub in suitable vise, protected by wood blocks.
b. Place dial gauge against hub surface, then move hub in axial direction.
c. If endplay exceeds 0.002 inch, use special wheel bearing installer tool No. MB990998, or equivalent, to tighten bearing. Torque special tool to
145-188 ft. lbs.
2. Replace hub bearing unit if adjustment cannot be made to within limit.
