Wiper Motor: Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
Important Information - Read First
Whenever a wiper motor malfunction occurs, first ensure wiper motor wire harness is properly connected before starting with normal diagnosis and
repair procedures.
Interval Period Will Not Adjust
1. Inspect variable intermittent wiper control switch.
2. Inspect intermittent wiper relay.
Washer/Wiper Is Inoperative
1. Inspect washer motor.
2. Inspect washer switch.
Wiper Operation Not Coordinated W/Washer
1. Inspect intermittent wiper relay.
Washer Does Not Operate
1. Inspect for blown multi-purpose fuse no.9.
2. Inspect ground connection.
Washer Operates
1. Inspect wiper switch.
Wipers Do Not Operate In Intermittent Mode
1. Inspect voltage of steering column switch terminal No. 7 with intermittent wiper relay energized.
2. If voltage is 0 volts, inspect intermittent wiper relay or wiper switch.
3. If voltage is 12 volts, inspect intermittent wiper relay.
4. If voltage is alternating between 0 and 12 volts, system is OK.
Wipers Do Not Stop
1. Inspect wiper motor.
2. Inspect intermittent wiper relay.
3. Inspect wiper switch.
Important Information - Read First
The intermittent wipe function is controlled by the body controller, located in the passenger compartment behind the right side kick panel.
To diagnose system malfunctions that do not involve the
delay function, refer to "Standard Front Wipers" in this section.
Troubleshooting Guide
Wipers Do Not Operate
1. Inspect for blown multi-purpose fuse no.9.
2. Inspect ground connection.
Wipers Do Not Operate
1. Inspect wiper switch.
At LOW or HIGH Speed
Wipers Do Not Stop
1. Inspect wiper motor.
2. Inspect intermittent wiper relay.
3. Inspect wiper switch.
Wipers Do Not Operate
In Intermittent Mode
1. Inspect column switch terminal No. 7 with intermittent wiper relay energized.
2. If voltage is 0 volts, inspect intermittent wiper relay or wiper switch.
3. If voltage is 12 volts, inspect intermittent wiper relay.
4. If voltage is alternating between 0 and 12 volts, system is OK.
