Drive Belt: Adjustments
Alternator Belt Adjustment
1. Remove the under cover side panel (R.H.).
2. Loosen the generator pivot nut.
3. Loosen the lock nut.
4. Turn the adjusting screw to adjust the belt tension or, deflection to within specifications listed below.
NOTE: When installing a new belt, apply 310 N (70 lbs.) of tension for 5 minutes or more, and then apply the final tension.
Tension:
New Belt Installed: 490 - 712 N (110 - 160 lbs.)
Used Belt Installed: 400 - 490 N (90 - 110 lbs.)
Deflection (Reference Value):
New Belt Installed: 7.5 - 10.5 mm (0.30 - 0.41 inch)
Used Belt Installed: 9.0 - 12.0 mm (0.35 - 0.47 inch)
5. Tighten the generator pivot nut.
Tightening torque: 54 Nm (40 ft.lbs.)
6. Tighten the lock nut.
Tightening torque: 61 Nm (45 ft.lbs.)
7. Install the under cover side panel (R.H.).
