Rear Disc Brake Moan/Howl
MODELS:
1993 - 1994 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/Vision/LHS/New Yorker
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Moan or howl from the rear brake area when brakes are applied. More pronounced after vehicle has set for 6 or more hours.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the caliper assembly attaching bolts, brake shoes, braking disc (rotor), and adapter for loose or abnormally worn components. Repair as
necessary. If moan/howl still exists, perform the repair procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the rear disc brake adapters with revised parts.
1.
Raise vehicle on a suitable hoist.
2.
Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly.
3.
Remove the caliper assembly from the adapter and hang it from the vehicle frame.
4.
Remove the braking disc (rotor) from hub.
5.
Remove hub and bearing assembly cotter pin and nut retainer.
6.
Remove hub retaining nut and washer from spindle and remove hub and bearing assembly from spindle.
7.
If equipped with ABS, remove speed sensor head from disc brake adapter.
8.
Remove parking brake shoe assembly from disc brake adaptor.
9.
Disconnect park brake cable from park brake actuator lever and remove cable from disc brake adaptor.
10.
Remove the 4 bolts attaching the disc brake adapter to the spindle and remove.
11.
Remove the 4 bolts attaching the shield to the adaptor and pry them apart.
12.
Clean the adaptor mating surface on the shield with Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner, P/N 4318037, and dry thoroughly.
13.
Apply Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant, P/N 4318025, to the mating surface of the shield and revised disc brake adaptor.
14.
Install the shield to disc brake adaptor and torque the 4 attaching bolts to 12 N-m (106 in.lbs.).
