Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair
Antilock Brake System Bleeding Procedures
The TEVES MARK IV anti-lock brake system should be bled in three steps: first, follow the Conventional Bleed Procedure; second, use the DRB II
tester to bleed the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU); finally, repeat the Conventional Bleed Procedure.
CONVENTIONAL BLEED PROCEDURE
Pressure Bleed
1. Connect pressure bleeder tool No. C-3496-B, or equivalent, and adapter BB400-9A or equivalent to pressurize brake system. Follow
manufactures instructions, for use of pressure bleeding equipment.
2. Attach clear hose to bleeder screw at one wheel, place other end into clear jar. Open bleeder screw one full turn, after four to eight ounces of
fluid have been bled into jar close bleeder screw.
3. Repeat for all wheels in the following order: RR-LR-RF-LF, repeat procedure until no air bubbles appear and brake pedal travel is satisfactory.
Manual Bleed
1. Connect a transparent hose to caliper bleed screw, and place the other end of hose in a transparent container partially filled with clean brake
fluid.
2. Have an assistant pump brake pedal several times with full strokes of the brake pedal, then hold the pedal under pressure before opening
bleeder screw.
3. Open the bleed screw 1 turn. Keep screw open until fluid no longer comes out from bleeder, then tighten bleeder screw and release brake
pedal.
4. Repeat this procedure until air bubbles are no longer present in fluid coming from bleeder hose.
5. Repeat for all wheels in the following order: RR-LR-RF-LF.
BLEEDING HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT USING DRB II
1. Connect DRB II scan tool to vehicle diagnostics connector which is located under dash panel, right of steering column.
2. Install cartridge into DRB II containing correct software for bleeding Teves Anti-Lock system.
3. Perform procedure described in DRB II scan tool diagnostic manual.
