Fuel Tank Pressure Release Valve: Service and Repair

CAUTION:  The fuel system remains pressurized after engine has been shut off. Release system pressure prior to opening system. 

WARNING:  Gasoline is extremely volatile, when servicing fuel systems always wear eye protection, keep open flame away from fuel system
components, and prohibit smoking in service areas.

NOTE:  Wrap shop towels around fuel hoses to absorb any fuel that spills during fuel tank replacement.

Pressure Relief/Rollover Valve Removal

REMOVAL

1. The fuel fuel pump module must be removed to replace the pressure relief/rollover valve.  
2. Wedge a flat blade screwdriver between rubber grommet and fuel pump module.
3. Using light pressure, pry valve and grommet assembly from module.
4. To remove grommet, push down on grommet and peel off valve.

 
INSTALLATION

1. Install the grommet onto the rollover valve. Lightly lubricate the outer portion of the grommet with clean power steering fluid.
2. Start one side of the rollover valve/grommet assembly into the opening in the fuel tank. Using fingers only, press the valve/grommet into place.
3. Reinstall the fuel pump module.
