Power Steering Line/Hose: Service and Repair
Power Steering Fluid Return Hose

NOTE:  Cap all open ends of hoses, power steering pump fittings and steering gear ports. This will prevent entry of foreign material into the components
when power steering hoses are removed from vehicle.

WARNING:  Power steering oil, engine parts and the exhaust system may be extremely hot if the engine has been running. Do not start the
engine with any loose or disconnected hoses. Do not allow hoses to touch the hot exhaust manifold or catalytic converter.

REMOVE 

1. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering gear. Let the power steering fluid drain from the power steering fluid reservoir and

the return hose before removing the return hose from the power steering fluid reservoir.

2. Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a frame contact type hoist. 

3. Unclip the power steering return hose from the routing clip on the frame rail.
4. Remove the hose clamp from the power steering return hose at the power steering fluid reservoir. Let the remaining power steering fluid drain

from remote reservoir.

5. Remove the power steering return hose from the vehicle.

INSTALL 

1. Using a lint free towel, wipe clean the open power steering hose ends, power steering fluid reservoir and steering gear ports.
2. Install new O-ring and/or washer seal on the end of the power steering return hose to steering gear fitting. Lubricate O-rings or washer seals using

fresh clean power steering fluid.

3. Install the power steering return hose assembly back into the vehicle. Be sure hose assembly is properly routed.
4. Install power steering return hose into steering gear return port and loosely install fitting. Do not tighten power steering return hose to steering gear

fitting at this time.

5. Install power steering return hose, onto remote power steering fluid reservoir. Install hose clamp on power steering return hose, at power steering

fluid reservoir. Be sure hose clamp is installed on hose past upset bead on power steering fluid reservoir.

6. Route power steering return hose so it is not in contact with any engine or body components. Tighten the power steering return hose to steering

gear fitting to a torque of 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).

7. Lower the vehicle to the ground.

CAUTION:  Do not use automatic transmission fluid in power steering system. Only use Mopar (R), Power Steering Fluid, or equivalent.
