Ford 7.5 & 8.8 Inch Rear Axle

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheel and brake drum.
2. Remove housing cover and drain lubricant from axle.
3. Proceed as follows:
a. Remove differential pinion shaft lock bolt, then the pinion shaft.

b. Push axle shaft inward toward center of vehicle, then remove C-lockwasher from end of shaft, Fig. 2.
c. Carefully slide axle shaft out from housing.
3. On all models, remove wheel bearing and seal with suitable slide hammer puller positioned into housing bore. Ensure tangs of puller are
positioned behind bearing race.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lubricate new bearing with suitable axle lubricant, then install into housing bore using bearing installation tool No. T78P-1225-A, or
equivalent.
