AIR CONDITIONING - POOR COOLING IN HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY CONDITIONS
LIGHT TRUCK:
1991 AEROSTAR
ISSUE:
Poor A/C cooling may occur during high ambient temperature and humidity conditions. This may be caused by an improperly adjusted
temperature blend door or radiation of heat from the heater core.
ACTION:
Use the following procedure to determine if the temperature blend door is adjusted correctly or if a new water valve is required.
1. Make sure the temperature blend door is fully closed in the full cool position. If the door does not close fully, adjust it as required by following the
procedures outlined in the 1991 Aerostar Shop Manual, Section 12-03A.
NOTE:
IF POOR A/C COOLING CONTINUES, PROCEED TO STEP 2.
2. Install a water valve, (D7DZ-18495-B) onto the water inlet heater hose for the front heater core.
3. Secure the water valve with two (2) worm-drive type hose clamps.
4. Connect a vacuum "T" (373846-S) into the vacuum source for the recirculating air door.
5. Connect one end of a twenty-five inch (25") piece of 1/8" I.D. vacuum hose to the "T".
6. Connect the other end of the vacuum hose to the water valve vacuum port.
NOTE:
ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THE TEMPERATURE LEVER WILL NO LONGER REGULATE THE DISCHARGED AIR
TEMPERATURE WHEN THE CONTROL IS PLACED IN THE "MAX A/C" MODE.
