Ensure that cable is positioned in groove and not between guide and shoe web.

Install secondary shoe to anchor spring. Ensure that all parts lay flat on anchor pin.

Remove clamp from wheel cylinder.

10.

Apply suitable lubricant to threads and socket end of adjusting screw, turn adjusting screw into adjusting pivot nut to end of threads and back off
1/2 turn, then place adjusting socket on screw and install assembly between shoe ends with adjusting screw closer to secondary shoe. Socket end of
each adjusting screw is stamped ``R'' or ``L'' to indicate use on right or left side of vehicle. Adjusting pivot nuts can be identified by number of
lines machined around body of nut. Two lines indicate righthand nut and one line indicates lefthand nut.

Hook cable hook into hole in adjusting lever from outboard plate side. Adjusting levers are stamped ``R'' or ``L'' to indicate use on righthand or
lefthand brake assembly.

12.

Place hooked end of adjuster spring in large hole in primary shoe web and connect looped end of spring to adjuster lever hole.

13.

Pull adjuster lever, cable, and automatic adjuster spring down toward rear to engage pivot hook in large hole in secondary shoe web, then ensure
that adjusting mechanism works properly.

14.

On vehicles with full-floating axles, install brake drums as follows:
a.

Place brake drum on hub and install attaching screws, bolts, or bolts and nuts.

b.

Place hub and drum as an assembly on axle and start adjusting nut.

c.

Adjust wheel bearing nut and install wheel bearing lock washer and locknut. Refer to individual truck chapter for procedure.

d.

Install new gasket and the bolts and lock washers.

e.

Install wheel and tire assembly.

f.

Adjust brakes. Refer to individual truck chapter for correct adjustment procedure.

15.

On vehicles with semi-floating axles, install brake drums as follows:
a.

Adjust brakes. Refer to individual truck chapter for correct adjustment procedure.

b.

Install drum.

c.

Install brake drum retaining nuts and tighten securely.

d.

Install wheel on axle shaft flange studs against drum, and tighten retaining nuts.

16.

On all vehicles, if hydraulic system was opened during repair procedure, bleed the brakes as outlined in BRAKE BLEEDING.

17.

Check master cylinder fluid lever, filling as necessary.

18.

Check brake pedal for proper feel and return.

19.

Lower vehicle and road test.
