ISSUE:
The wet appearance of the outer cover of rubber brake hoses is called "sweating." This is a normal condition for neoprene rayon braid hose.
The "sweating" condition is not evidence of a brake fluid leak and will not result in a loss of pressure in the system.
ACTION:
No action is required for a normal "sweating" brake hose. However, to test for a hydraulic fluid leak, proceed as follows:
1.
Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder. If necessary, add brake fluid.
2.
Wipe off the hose(s) in question with a clean cloth and an all purpose cleaner, then dry.
3.
With the engine running, fully depress the brake twice and hold for two (2) minutes.

If the pedal goes down, check all of the connections for leaks and repair as required.

If the pedal goes down and no visible leaks are seen, then the master cylinder is leaking internally and must be replaced or rebuilt. Refer to
the appropriate Light Truck or Medium/Heavy Truck Shop Manual, Section 6 or 12 (Light Truck) and Section 12 (Med./Hvy Truck) for
service details.
