Seat Belt - Shoulder Strap Webbing Twisted

 SAFETY BELTS - FRONT - TWISTED - MODELS WITH "B" PILLAR TRIM PANELS

LIGHT TRUCK:

1990 AEROSTAR

ISSUE:

The front seat shoulder strap webbing may become twisted between the "D"-ring and the retractor. This occurs because the "D"-ring does not
have a cover to prevent possible twisting of the seat belt webbing.

ACTION:

Install two "D"-ring covers to keep the belt webbing from twisting. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1.

Remove the necessary trim panel to expose the "D"-rings on both the driver's and passenger's side. Refer to the 1990 Aerostar Shop Manual,
Section 01-05A for removal procedures.

2.

Obtain two (2) front seat shoulder strap guide covers (F1TZ-7860262-A). The covers are only serviced in the color black.

3.

Install the cover on the "D"-ring.

a.

Place the top portion of the cover over the top of the "D" ring.

Snap the bottom portion of the cover on the "D"-ring as shown in Figure 1.

4.

Make sure the covers snap properly and are not loose before re-installing the trim panels in the truck.

5.

Check the seat belt operation by pulling the webbing in and out of the retractor at various angles to see if there is any twisting effect. (Check both
sides of the truck).

6.

Re-install the trim panels.

7.

Check the operation of the seat belt assemblies before releasing the truck.
