Differential Axle Housing: Service and Repair
Front Axle Assembly (4WD)
1.
Raise front of vehicle and support with safety stands under front lift points.
2.
Remove front wheels and tires.
3.
Disconnect driveshaft from front axle flange. Mark driveshaft and axle flanges for assembly reference.
4.
Remove bolts attaching inboard halfshaft flange to axle shaft, then wire halfshaft to body.
5.
Disconnect vent hose at axle tube and plug vent fitting to prevent fluid leakage.
6.
Ensure front axle is supported, then remove locknuts from axle mounting brackets to crossmember.
7.
Remove front axle assembly and attaching screws holding mounting bracket.
8.
Reverse procedure to install.
