Axle Shafts, Carrier Oil Seal and Bearing (4WD)

1.
Remove axle assembly, cover plate and drain lubricant.
2.
Install axle assembly in suitable holding fixture, then rotate shaft until open end of snap ring is exposed.
3.
Remove shaft from assembly.
4.
Remove oil seal and caged needle bearings using tools No. T50T-100-A and D80L-100-T or equivalent. Discard seal and bearings, Fig. 1.
5.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure bearing bore is free from nicks and burrs.
b. Install axle shafts into carrier so groove in shaft is visible in differential case.
c. Clean mating surfaces of carrier and cover. Apply a narrow beard of RTV sealant to mating surfaces.
