Axle Shaft: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Drain transmission fluid from transaxle.
3. Remove front wheel and tire assemblies.
4. Use small cape chisel to carefully raise the staked portion of the front axle wheel hub retainer.
5. While applying brakes, loosen but do not remove front axle wheel hub retainer.

6. Remove clamp bolt and nut.

7. Carefully pry down on front suspension lower arm to separate ball joint from front wheel knuckle.
8. Separate driveshaft and joint from transaxle gradually. If driveshaft is yanked from transaxle, the differential oil seal may be damaged.
