Engine - Oil Pressure Loss

OIL PRESSURE LOSS (4.9L) ENGINES BUILT ON AUGUST 1, 2 AND 3, 1983
LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 E, F & BRONCO
A small quantity of the above vehicles may have mismachined camshaft journals which could cause premature bearing wear and subsequent loss of
engine oil pressure. Low oil pressure concerns, with or without engine noise, on units with the above engine build dates may be a result of this condition.
To service the above concerns, remove the camshaft using the procedures found in Section 21-11-21 of the "1983 Light Truck Engine Shop Manual".
Inspect the camshaft journals and lobes for any excessive wear, chatter or unusual pattern on the surface finish, particularly on the #1 lobe or the 2nd and
3rd bearing journal. If any of these conditions exist, replace the camshaft from service stock. Also, replace the camshaft bearings per Section 21-11-30.
If the camshaft does not show excessive wear or irregularities of the surface finish, reinstall the camshaft and check the oil pump as described in Section
21-11-20 for damage and proper operation.
