1984 Bronco (not Bronco II) vehicles equipped with 5.0 liter and 5.8 liter V-8 engines and built at the Michigan Truck Plant from December 5, 1983
through January 6, 1984.
DESCRIPTION OF DEFECT AND CORRECTION:
This recall involves the connection of flexible fuel supply hoses to fuel pump inlet nipples on some 1984 Bronco (not Bronco II) vehicles with 5.0 liter
and 5.8 liter V-8 engines built at the Michigan Truck Plant from December 5, 1983 through January 6, 1984. A fuel hose spring clamp on some of these
vehicles may not have been properly positioned between the two beads on the fuel pump inlet nipple. There is a possibility that vehicles with such
mispositioned clamps may not meet applicable fuel leakage requirements of the U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 301, "Fuel System
Integrity" in certain 30 mph frontal barrier impact tests. In normal operation of vehicles with such mispositioned clamps, the fuel hose would be expected
to remain attached to the nipple with no leakage of fuel. However, in the event of certain types of frontal collision, there is a risk that an unclamped hose
could separate from the fuel pump nipple. In the event of such a separation, fuel would leak into the engine compartment or onto the ground, presenting
the potential for a fire if an ignition source were present.
The location of the fuel hose clamp (fuel pump inlet end) is to be inspected and, if necessary, the clamp is to be positioned on the hose between the two
beads on the fuel pump inlet.

MARIANA ISLANDS: SALE OR DELIVERY OF VEHICLES THAT DO NOT CONFORM TO APPLICABLE U.S. FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE
SAFETY STANDARDS MAY SUBJECT THE DEALER TO PENALTIES OF UP TO $1000 PER UNIT UNDER THE
NATIONAL TRAFFIC AND MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT.

at this time, and this Service--Recall Bulletin is for information only. Other eligible vehicles may be brought to your dealership by their owners for this
recall service. Those units also are to be corrected as promptly as possible. If the owner of any eligible vehicle does not have a Customer Notification
and Dealer Claim Form (FED-1864), a blank Form 1864 should be completed by you and sent in for reimbursement. For Dealers in Puerto Rico and the
Virgin Islands - To determine vehicle eligibility, please use "CARES."
Vehicle owners whose names and addresses are shown on the enclosed recall listing are being notified by First Class Mail. If you have knowledge that a
suspect vehicle has been sold, but the owner's name and address does not appear on the listing, please contact the owner immediately and provide him a
copy of the owner letter. If the owner of any vehicle cannot be contacted or does not make an appointment to have his vehicle corrected, advise your
supervising Ford location or this office of the owner's name and address so that we can handle further notification.
Owners are being encouraged in the owner letter to ask about any other outstanding recalls on their vehicles when they contact you to arrange an
appointment for this recall service. Dealers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands can advise them through use of CARES of other recalls, if any, that
may be uncompleted. You should attempt to complete all open recalls on these vehicles on a single visit by the owner.
