Ignition Timing
Trucks
All 1987-model E & F Series and Bronco trucks equipped
Affected
with 4.9L engines, at all plants producing these trucks
from December 3, 1986 through February 27, 1987.
Reasons for
Engines in the affected trucks were produced with a mis-
This Program
stamped ignition timing pointer. This pointer will cause
incorrect ignition timing if the numbers stamped on the pointer are used when readjusting the timing.
Engines that are not timed properly may experience spark knock with potential for engine damage.
Program
Owners of trucks affected by this program will be sent a
Provisions
decal that describes the correct way to readjust the
ignition timing. Instructions will also be sent describing the location where the decals are to be affixed on the trucks.
Action By Ford
Owners of affected trucks will be mailed the letter
Motor Company
shown on Attachment II. Enclosed with that letter will
be a decal that the owner may affix to the truck.
Action By
Affix a decal to trucks that may be in dealer stock.
Dealers
Affix decals to trucks that are returned by the owners.
