1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove instrument panel pad as follows:

a. Remove headlamp knob and shaft assembly by pressing the button on lefthand side of switch and pulling knob rearward, Fig. 8.
b. Remove auxiliary tank switch knob, if equipped.
c. Remove cigar lighter, then pull ashtray to the open position.
d. Remove right, left and center finish panels.
e. Remove instrument cluster finish panel retaining screws.
f.

Remove lower instrument pad retaining screws.

g. Remove upper instrument panel pad retaining screws at defroster openings.
h. Remove speaker grilles, speakers and premium sound amplifier, if equipped.
i.

Remove electronic shift transfer case microprocessor, if equipped.

j.

Remove instrument panel pad and upper finish panel from instrument panel.

3. Remove screw from top center of instrument panel, Fig. 9.
4.  Remove screw from top left and right ends of instrument panel, Fig. 9.
5.  Disconnect speedometer cable.
6. Remove parking brake release lever support bracket bolt.
7. Disconnect electrical connector located at lower righthand side behind instrument panel.
8. Remove antenna wire from clip attached to defroster nozzle, if equipped.
9. Disconnect function control cable and temperature control cable from plenum.

10. Remove instrument panel from vehicle.
