Clutch Master Cylinder: Service and Repair
Hydraulic Clutch System
NOTE: The hose to the slave cylinder is retained by a clip, removal of this clip allows the slave cylinder to be serviced separately from the reservoir
and master cylinder, which are serviced as an assembly.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal by prying the retainer bushing and push rod off the shaft.
2. Remove the screw retaining the fluid reservoir to the cowl access cover.
3. Remove the bolts retaining the clutch master cylinder to the engine compartment and remove the clutch master cylinder.
4. On the clutch housing, remove the clip retaining the tube to the slave cylinder. Remove the tube and fitting with the master cylinder and reservoir.
Plug both lines to prevent the entry of contaminants.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the push rod through the hole in the engine compartment. Be sure it is located on the correct side of the clutch pedal. Place the master
cylinder assembly in position. Install the bolts and tighten to 21-27 Nm (15-20 ft lbs).
2. Insert the tube and fitting in the clutch slave cylinder. Install the clip.
3. Position the fluid reservoir on the cowl access cover. Install the retaining screw.
4. Replace the retainer bushing in the clutch master cylinder push rod if worn or damaged. Install the retainer and push rod on the clutch pedal shaft.
5. Bleed the hydraulic clutch system. Refer to: Clutch / Service and Repair
