Ranger 4x4 and Bronco II vehicles built with front axles E57A-3002-AFA (3.45 ratio) and E57A-3002-AGA (3.7 ratio) and equipped with automatic
hub locks will incorporate a new two-piece wheel bearing spindle nut locking key
and engagement cam (See Figure 30). This hub lock revision is scheduled as a running change in January, 1985.
This new retention system will replace the current integral one-piece key/cam design. As the result of this change, the following revisions are required in
the service procedure as outlined in the 1985 Ranger/ Bronco II Shop Manual Section 11-12-1.

The caution listed under automatic locking hubs page 11-12-3, Step 6 - Front Wheel Bearing Adjustment Section should be revised as follows:
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the spindle threads, remove adjusting nut locking key from spindle keyway under adjusting nut prior to nut removal.
A slight movement of the nut will loosen locking key so that a magnet or pointed tool can be used for removal (Figure 9).

Page 11-12-4 Step 10 and the CAUTION following under front wheel bearing adjustment to be revised as follows:
Step 10:
Align the closest 2 holes in the wheel bearing adjusting nut with the center of the spindle keyway slot. Advance the nut to the next hole if required.
CAUTION: To assure proper wheel retention, install adjusting nut locking key in alignment with spindle keyway and insert into lock nut holes.
Doublehumped portion must be fully seated and flush with lock nut.
