VIBRATION - POWERTRAIN TORSIONAL - ABOVE 45 MPH - A4LD TRANSMISSION
LIGHT TRUCK 1985 BRONCO II
A 45 MPH powertrain torsional vibration can be caused by an improperly machined rear output double cardan end yoke. These improperly machined
parts were installed on vehicles with transfer case number E57A- 7A195-JA or JB.
If a vehicle has the JA or JB transfer case, the following service procedure can be performed to service the concern:
1.
Disassemble driveshaft from rear of transfer case.
Figure 27 - Double Cardan End Yoke
2.
Inspect double cardan end yoke (See Figure 27). If double cardan end yoke has four mounting pads with corner "A" square with no radius and/or
milled surface above machined surface of cup diameter, this part was improperly machined.
3.
Replace improperly machined yoke with new E3TZ-7B214-B end yoke which has corner "B" (See Figure 27) with 3/16 inch radius and milled
surface below machined cup diameter.
4.
Re-assemble driveshaft and verify that vibration has been eliminated.
