NOISE -"GROANING OR GRINDING" - DURING LIGHT BRAKE APPLICATION
LIGHT TRUCK:
1986-87 RANGER, BRONCO II
1SSUE: A "groaning or grinding" noise from the front of the vehicle at slow speeds (below 15 mph/24 km/h) during light braking may be caused by the
design of the existing brake components. The noise may be improperly diagnosed as a bad wheel bearing or worn-out disc brake pads. The "groaning or
grinding" noise can only be heard from inside the vehicle.
ACTION:
To correct this, first identify the type of brake calipers on the vehicle. Refer to the Caliper Identification Information on this page. After
proper identification has been established, replace the necessary brake components as indicated in the Brake Components Application Chart
on this page. Refer to the appropriate Ranger/Bronco II Shop Manual, Section 12 for removal and installation procedures.
