Lay a straight edge over the end of the tank collar and have the edge line up over the center line of the tank valve. Refer to Figure 17.

The tank valve centerline will fall within a certain sector on the shim selector template. See Figure 17. The number indicated on the template is
the thickness of shim needed for final assembly of the tank valve (if centerline is on a template line choose the thicker shim).

Select secondary seal as follows:

If no shim or the .003 inch shim was selected in previous step, select the white secondary seal (supplied on the tank valve).

If a .006 inch or .009 inch shim was selected in previous step, select the orange secondary seal.
^
If a .012 inch or .015 inch shim was selected in previous step, select the green secondary seal.

If a .020 inch shim was selected in previous step, select the blue secondary seal.
NOTE:
Hold tank in place by grasping tank collar.
10.
Remove tank valve from fuel tank. An assistant may be necessary to hold fuel tank in place.
11.
Remove shim selector template from the fuel tank collar.
12.
Install secondary seal on tank valve threaded stem. Note orientation of seal. Refer to Figure 18.
13.
Install proper shim on tank valve threaded stem. Refer to Figure 18.
14.
Lubricate 0-ring with clean engine oil. Carefully slide 0-ring over threaded portion of stem to fully seated position against shim. See Figure 18.
NOTE:
Hold tank in place by grasping tank collar.
15.
Install tank valve into fuel tank. Tighten tank valve to 169 Nm (125 lb/ft), then loosen tank valve 1/2 turn, and then retighten tank valve to 169 Nm
(125 lb/ft). An assistant will be necessary to hold fuel tank in place.
16.
Make sure tank valve is indexed so the fuel inlet and outlet lines can be installed and the solenoid can be accessed for future service.
