Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair
With Air Evacuator Tool
1. Raise and support front of vehicle, then insert air evacuator rubber stopper securely into power steering pump reservoir opening.
2. Start engine, then apply 20-25 inches Hg vacuum for a minimum of three minutes with engine at idle.
3. Release vacuum and remove evacuator, then add fluid to reservoir until level is between MIN and MAX marks.
4. Install evacuator and again apply a vacuum of 20-25 inches Hg to system, then rotate steering wheel from lock to lock every 30 seconds for
approximately five minutes. Do not hold wheel at either lock, power steering pump damage may result.
5. Stop engine, then release vacuum and remove air evacuator.
6. Lower front of vehicle to ground, then install power steering pump reservoir cap and start engine again.
7. Cycle steering wheel from lock to lock every 30 seconds for approximately five minutes.
8. If system has not yet been completely purged of air, repeat evacuation procedure.
9. Inspect all hose connections for fluid leakage and repair as necessary.
