Camshaft: Service and Repair

NOTE:Ford does not provide camshaft gear timing marks, or information to perform timing belt service without the special tools shown

in this procedure.

REMOVAL

1. Remove timing belt.
2. Remove camshaft sprockets.
3. Remove valve cover.
4.  Mark cylinder head camshaft journal cap number on outside edge of camshaft journal caps and cylinder head.

CAUTION:  Cylinder head camshaft journal caps and cylinder head should be numbered to ensure they are assembled in original positions. Keep
camshaft journal caps from cylinder head together. Do not mix with camshaft journal caps from another cylinder head. Failure to do so may result
in engine damage.

5. Remove cylinder head camshaft journal cap bolts in pairs, loosening one turn at a time, beginning at rear of cylinder head. Remove cylinder head

camshaft journal thrust caps last to ensure proper camshaft position in cylinder head.
