For 1996-97 2.5L CD4E vehicles, verify by starting the vehicle after an overnight soak and quickly engaging the transmission in DRIVE. If a forward
surge is felt, reprogram the PCM as shown in the PCM Application Chart.

Sulfur Odor Concern

For 1995-97 2.5L CD4E vehicles only, road test the vehicle to verify the presence of the objectionable sulfur odor. Replace the PCM for 1995 model
year vehicles, or reprogram the PCM for 1996-97 model year vehicles as shown in the PCM Application Chart. Also replace both the HEGO sensors
(refer to the Parts Block for service numbers). Refer to the following for upstream HEGO replacement tip.

CAUTION

IF THE SUBFRAME IS LOOSENED TO ACCESS THE UPSTREAM HEGO SENSOR, AVOID STRIPPING THE WELD NUTS WHEN
REINSTALLING THE SUBFRAME MOUNTING BOLTS.

Remove the coil pack.

2.

Using a short (4-5") 7/8" wrench, reach down through the opening created from coil pack removal and loosen the HEGO sensor.

3.

Install new HEGO sensors.

4.

Reinstall coil pack.

MIL Concerns
 
Conduct normal diagnostics and repair as required. For 1996-97 vehicles only: if DTCs PO133 and/or P0153 are stored in memory, reprogram the PCM.
Refer to the PCM Application Chart for calibrations.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of
modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized
Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
