Starter Relay: Description and Operation
The starter relay consists of:

Pull-in coil.

Contacts.
When the ignition switch is in the START position:

Pull-in coil is activated and pulls the contacts together.

Current passes through the starter from the power distribution box to the starter solenoid.
The starter relay is deactivated when the ignition switch is in the RUN or OFF position.
