Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Removal
SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED
1. CAUTION: The valve covers must be removed prior to removing the engine front cover or engine damage and/or leakage may occur upon
reassembly.
2. Remove drive belt.
3. Remove water pump pulley.
4. Raise vehicle on hoist.
5. Remove bolts retaining power steering pump to cylinder block and engine front cover.
NOTE: The front lower bolt on the power steering pump will not come all the way out.
6. Wire power steering pump out of way.
7. Remove four oil pan-to-engine front cover bolts.
8. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt and crankshaft pulley retaining washer from crankshaft.
9. Install Crankshaft Damper Remover 303-009 on crankshaft pulley and pull crankshaft pulley from crankshaft.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Remove nut retaining air conditioner high-pressure line to RH front cover stud.
12. Remove both RH and LH valve covers.
13. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from the camshaft position sensor (CMP sensor).
14. Position power steering hoses out of the way.
15. Remove two nuts and one bolt retaining power steering reservoir bracket.
16. Remove bolt retaining belt idler pulley; then remove pulley.
17. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor) and then remove crankshaft position sensor.
