Transmission Mode Indicator - A/T: Service and Repair
Disassembly and Assembly

DISASSEMBLY

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Set parking brake.
3. Unsnap LH instrument panel moulding and RH instrument panel moulding and remove from instrument panel finish panel.
4. Remove instrument panel steering column cover.
5. Remove four nuts retaining the steering column and lower the steering column.
6. Remove knob from headlamp switch.
7. Remove 13 screws retaining instrument panel finish panel and pull instrument panel finish panel out.
8. Move gearshift lever to low gear (1) position if required for easier access.
9. Disconnect electrical connectors from message center switch module.

10. Remove instrument panel finish panel carefully so not to scratch the instrument cluster lens.
11. Disconnect transmission range indicator from instrument cluster by carefully bending bottom tab down and pulling transmission range indicator

forward.

12. Remove screw retaining control selector bracket and cable to steering column.
13. Disconnect cable loop from gearshift lever pin on the transmission selector lever arm and support of steering column and remove transmission

range indicator.

ASSEMBLY

1. Install transmission range indicator.
2. Connect cable loop from gearshift lever pin to the transmission selector lever arm and support of steering column.
3. Install screw retaining control selector bracket and cable to steering column.
4. Connect transmission range indicator to instrument cluster by bending bottom tab up.
5. Place gearshift lever in OVERDRIVE (D) position.
6. Adjust cable tension wheel at steering column until red indicator flag is centered between the calibration dots below the (D).
7. Move gearshift lever through all positions and check that the flag completely covers each graphic with no overlap into adjoining graphics.

Covering the calibration dots in the NEUTRAL or DRIVE (N or D) positions is acceptable.

8. Install instrument panel finish panel to place and connect electrical connectors to message center switch module.
9. Install screws retaining instrument panel finish panel to instrument panel.

10. Install knob to headlamp switch.
11. Raise steering column and install four retaining nuts.
12. Install instrument panel steering column cover.
13. Install LH instrument panel moulding and RH instrument panel moulding.
14. Connect battery ground cable.
